Baker & McKenzie Ranked Among the Best in Chambers Global 2008 "The World's Leading Lawyers"
Chicago, December 11, 2007 - Baker & McKenzie continues its strong standings in the Chambers Global 2008 annual directory, "The World's Leading Lawyers," with a total of 220 lawyers listed, up eight from the 2007 list; and 51 of the Firm's lawyers in various practice groups receiving a Tier 1 ranking, up five from last year.
In addition, the Firm received 17 global practice group rankings with Global Climate Change, Corporate/M&A, Intellectual Property, International Private Client, Tax, TMT, and Business Processing Outsourcing receiving Tier 1 rankings. Global Investment Funds REITS, Life Sciences and Immigration received Tier 2 rankings.
For the first time, Chambers Global listed two of the Firm's lawyers as ‘Senior Statesmen' - Partners Taher Helmy from Cairo and Jorge Lara from Bogota. The listing consists of lawyers who no longer work hands-on with the same intensity but, remain pivotal to the firm's success.
Also this year, three of the Firm's associates were recognized as ‘Associates to Watch,' a new Chambers Global category. Those listed include: Tamer El Hennawy (Cairo), Rebecca Ford (London) and Adriana Stamato (Sao Paulo).
Baker & McKenzie tax practitioner Luis Briones Fernandez from Madrid and intellectual property Partner Eugene Arievich from Moscow received "exceptional recommendations" in their field for the second consecutive year.
Other highlights from the 2008 rankings include:
- 20 offices were ranked for their Corporate/M&A practice; 17 offices ranked for their Dispute Resolution practice and 15 offices were ranked for their Banking & Finance practice;
- Eight Partners and three associates were listed as ‘Up and Coming' lawyers for their contributions to driving the Firm's growth;
- In Asia, the Hong Kong office was praised for its "superior knowledge of the Chinese market" in Corporate/M&A and the Bangkok office was recognized as "the best in Thailand" in Banking & Finance;
- In Europe, the London office was recognized for its "pragmatic and business-friendly advice" in Competition/European Law, and the Frankfurt office received a Tier 1 ranking for TMT: Information Technology and was cited for being "truly superb: up-to-date with the latest developments and up-to-speed with the way international companies want to do business";
- In Latin America, the Caracas office received Tier 1 rankings for four practice groups and the Sao Paulo office was noted for its "high-caliber, professional lawyers who understand teamwork and are always on hand to provide assistance, regardless of the subject, timing or situation";
- In North America, the Washington D.C. office received a Tier 1 ranking for its Tax practice for the third consecutive year.
Over 6,500 interviews with in-house and outside counsel were conducted covering 170 countries over a period of a year for this directory. Lawyers were ranked on a scale of 1-6 based on technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial awareness/astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by clients. Chambers Global is produced by London-based Chambers and Partners, a publisher since 1969 producing world-famous guides to the legal profession.
